About Me
I am into creativity, be it the visual arts, or playing amateurish bluegrass fiddle, or writing a cookbook replete with pen and ink irreverent drawings for my "Starving Students" sons. I am down to earth, have a smirky sense of humor, and love to go to the movies at the little college theatre that carries the weirder, or foreign films formerly know as "art films". Back in the day, I wished to be a film maker, and actually joined the Union (NABET) while learning to be an assistant editor on what is now known as an "Indie" film in SF CA. It is a career, alas alak, that I never persued in any professional manner. It is up there with the best of 'em (careers I could have persued, that is, but did not) Instead I focussed on my nurturing nature, raising 3 boys. Now, as I empty nestor: I feel the new freedom to explore the rest of my life, more fully. I think it'd be fun to share the adventure.
The down side: I have become a bit of a TV addict to shows like Heroes, and House. Lancaster PA is not a hotbed of Jewish Single Men in their 60's dating..even though TV has become a habit, I could break it for the right guy, and don't miss it when I do other more productive things like make the Falafel for our shuls's fundraiser Jewish food festival, or perform with Lancaster County Folk Music and Fiddler's Society at the Landis Farm Museum, or attend urban board meeting about urban gardening for kids. Or just do the dishes, or take out the trash, or read in bed, or listen to the birds in the morning, or rain and thunder, I can be happy and grateful just to be alive, and I can be quiet, or laugh full out or oh just lots of things...
Things I would love to do with a new friend: recreational ethnic cooking or eating. Going to a scientific lecture, or with a group on a mild nature hike. Exploring unusual roadside attractions, or going to a place that is new to both of us, and people watching etc. I am not economically high maintenance and can't spell worth a darn...I found a cafe' in Lancaster that has the most unbelievable hot tea, from Africa I think, but it tastes like you are imbibing a garden. I would like to do more meditation and yoga than I do presently. I always have a blast at most Jewish holidays...not just shofar honey'd New Years, yet I don't play a wind instrument, just strings: guitar and fiddle.
Something of interest: I am going into the N. Chicago suburbs June 3-9th '07, and would love to make new friends, see a movie, go out to a restaurant. I wish Folk Music was listed on the music list. I grew up in the area, went to New Trier, and have nostalgia comin' out my ears...but I know the place has changed since then. I lived 13 and 1/2 years in San Francisco CA, but I am a dessiduous tree kind of gal, so I don't think I could go back to the West Coast to live, even though I do miss the unbelievably alive counter culture of my youth. I can conceive of living in the Midwest again, traveling anywhere in the world, and also of taking up Mandarin Chinese (at my age!)
So maybe that gives you some idea, if not a DOGMA (as in Kevin Smith)
