About Me
I am originally from Yonkers, and I came to Albany in 1983 for college and have been here every since. I'm still a true New Yorker at heart, so I try to get to the city at least once a year in the summertime. I have to get my fix of "real" pizza, "real" pastrami, and spend a week at Yankee Stadium. I'm going to miss that old house on 161 when they tear it down, but that new place is looking really fabulous.
In my professional life, I am a product of the independent living movement. I, along with hundreds of advocates all across this country seek to ensure that people with disabilities, like me, have complete access to all areas and all aspects of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, equality of opportunity, and full control of their lives. While it is nice to have a government safety net, we all would like to have meaningful, gainful employment, homes of our own in neighborhoods of our own choosing, and the society free of ignorance and bigotry. We need leadership and fellowship, not sympathy and cures.
Still reading? Excellent! I don't smoke or do drugs, but I do listen to the Grateful Dead and Bob Marley (and Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin).
