About Me
I am an avid reader and researcher on several topics, a Grateful Dead aficionado [long hair may be gone but other attributes remain], and have closer relationships with my two adult children than ever before. I have one grandson from each, but one is local and the other in FL. I can find the humor in any situation, and enjoy a good intellectual discussion about most anything. I enjoy building and fixing things, particularly computers and woodworking projects. I rarely circumvent obstacles of a challenging nature.
I chose to return to academia a few years back to learn to be as effective as possible in any situation. I completed a Ph.D. a few months ago but recognize that full time academia is probably not an option at this point. I have taught on the ground and online, although not at the moment, and loved it. I taught recreational scuba for 18 years, led dive trips to the Caribbean, served several not-for-profits over the years, and had an extensive volunteer record until I returned to grad school.
For fun, I like to care a great deal, laugh hard and long and express my feelings with passion and playfulness, avoid unproductive politics and spectator sports, defend Zionist beliefs with conviction, delight small groups by volunteering when not asked, try to perceive reality through new lenses such as systems theory and complexity, explore life with someone willing to take the same emotional risks.
I feel a responsibility for Tikun Olam and the true meaning of Tzedakah. I have always been a doer. People say I am a mensch. I know I am a pragmatist, even though my expectations may be inordinately high. I always try to bring nachas to my family.
