About Me
I am a single, eclectic, confirmed non-conformist, Jewish (duh!) New York ex-patriot, who currently resides in Arizona. My bachelor's degree was in theatre arts, with a minor in religious studies (I had a professor, whom I suspect published my final paper, who wanted me to be a rabbi in the worst way, but it wasn't a good fit), and my Master's is in Public Administration. I am a dormant actor, and a writer (one completed book, two in process, a novelette, and short stories). I have been blessed with the most wonderful daughter any man has ever had. She is 18 (I was a young dad), a sophomore in college with a 4.0, and has soloed with the Phoenix Symphony, though, for some reason, she is not pursuing this as a career. I also have joint custody of the sweetest little Shi Tzu you will ever meet. My interests are broad, and include collecting historic home entertainment units such as televisions, radios, phonographs, wire recorders, tape recorders, VTRs, and combinations thereof. In fact, I believe I have the finest collection of these items of anyone who is not rich or a museum. There are also two antique automobiles, one, a 1953 Buick Super, in my carport, and the other, a Model T, which turns 95 on the 17th of March, in my garage. Neither is currently operable, but the Model T was until recently. Other hobbies include baseball (Yankees, naturally), baseball research, Jewish history, British history, technological history, coinage history, politics (the rare, unfortunately, genuine liberal who is staunchly pro-Israeli and anti-terrorist), live theatre (dead theatre is sort of boring), ballet, modern dance, classical concerts. My favorite composers (Jewish, naturally) are Ravel and Stravinsky. My wonderful grandparents, RIP, gave me a summer in Israel for my Bar Mitzvah. I have not been back since, but would love to return (this time with my daughter), and may eventually move there. Theologically, my beliefs change from time to time. However, there is no question that I am Jewish. In fact, my makeup is 75% Ashkenazik, and 25% Sephardic (I have never been able to pinpoint the border, however). I also enjoy all Asian cuisines which I have sampled, including all Chinese varieties I have tried, and I would love to try all the others, Vietnamese, Sushi, Korean, Thai, Japanese. Additionally, I enjoy cooking, especially lamb and duck (actually, I love anything fowl). Other favorites include kasha, kreplach, lean, Kosher corned beef. I have almost replicated my Grandmother's chicken soup. Anyway, my daughter particularly loves my knoedloch (sp?) soup. I light about eight menorim for Chanukkah, including an oil one, one which takes birthday candles (from my mother), and one which takes Shabbat candles. From a personality standpoint, I used to have bad temper, but it is history now (thank G-d). I can converse, in a semi-lucid manner, on many topics. I enjoy exercising, but work long hours, and do not work out as much as I would like. Traveling is a passion with me. Destinations (in addition to Israel) have included Britain (my favorite), Ireland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Ain le kesev, so I don't travel as much as I used to or would like to. In fact, my favorite way to be is in motion, flying (generally with a plane), driving, walking, and by train. I have never tasted smoke of any kind, inhaled or not, and never will. Thus, I was the only kid in my neighborhood who did not experiment with drugs, then or since. Ethics are important, and I always tell the truth, except when I am speaking or writing. Recently, I had the privilege of taking my daughter to a talk by a survivor of Schindler's List. It brought both of us to tears. We chatted with him before the talk, and I got a picture of him with my daughter. He said msny things of which I did not know.
